New California Bill Opens Door For "Drinking" & Dining Anywhere Cannabis Is Sold

Last week, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into legislation allowing cannabis retailers to permit on-site consumption as well as prepare, sell, and serve non-cannabis food and beverages within designated consumption areas. The legislation is intended to help licensed marijuana dispensary owners that have recently seen languishing sales, some of which they attribute to the black market. In 2019, Lowell Farms opened up Americaโs first-ever licensed cannabis cafe that allowed for the full sale and consumption of cannabis alongside a full menu of food and non-alcoholic beverages in West Hollywood, CA. The city has since allowed a handful of these establishments to open amidst a growing โCali soberโ movement away from alcohol towards psychedelics and cannabis. HNGRY recently had the privilege of visiting The Artist Tree, one of the first cannabis consumption lounges to offer bartender-crafted, weed infused non-alcoholic cocktails.
