How Toast Retail Powers Hybrid, Omnichannel Foodservice X Retail Experiences

So a guy walks into a bar, a full-service wine bar that is, and sits down to enjoy a meal with his friends. But in lieu of looking at a wine list, the waiter ushers the group to an adjacent wine store to pick out a bottle that would pair nicely with their meal. When the bill comes, everything is consolidated onto a single check and the customer also has the ability to purchase another bottle to take home. Further, the backend accounting and tipping between both the wine retail and foodservice sides of the business are fully solved. This experience has been roughly 3.5 years in the making and powered by Toast Retail, a โmodern platform that helps you automate inventory management, create seamless customer experiences, and easily integrate food service into your retail point of sale platform,โ as described by the company during its launch two weeks ago. Last year during its investor day, the platform identified a whitespace of 220k independent grocers, bottle shops, and convenience stores doing ~$3mm in GMV per location for a total addressable market of ~$660bn. This week, HNGRY sat down with Toast GM of Retail Omri Traub to dive deeper into the opportunity to โturn errands into experiencesโ for its wide array of customers.
